Creative Critical Reflection
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups and issues.
A: My product uses conventions because in the majority of pen commercials or specifically Inkjoy commercials they always include the drying time like "our pens dry three times faster than the other competitors" or " our pens dry fast to prevent smears." They always compare with other brands as well to show why you should buy there. In my group and I commercial, we used some of those conventions to promote that the brand is smear-proof. We also showed how the pen kept getting stolen and are the most stolen out of the other brands. Also, most commercials use conventions that involve upbeat music to make their product look good or useful while the person is using it. In our commercial, my team and I used upbeat music to make the product look better and added more style to the commercial. It represents social groups like kids in high school or those that work in an office. They would target these groups by using people in their age groups in the commercial. These commercials usually show the person interacting with the pen the same way they would.
2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
A: Our product engages with audiences through television or on any electronic device. This type of media is meant to inform or convince someone about a product and to go and get a product. Our product would engage with someone maybe during back-to-school time, where the majority of people are under 25 and are going to shop for these products. The product would be distributed as real text media through phones, TVs, tablets, and computers.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
A: Throughout this process, my production skills got better because I was working first hand in the making of the commercial. I learned the importance of making sure everything was the same in each take whether it was clothing, angles, or the position of the people taking part. when we were missing something for the shot we all had to come together with solutions to fix the problem because our time was limited. With each time we had to shoot or retake something I became more familiar with the way it needed to be done and which way looked better depending on the lighting or what needed to be seen the most. This really gave me a good eye for perfect lighting in the shot and the importance of a camera angle. When it came to recreating the same shot the next day or adding another shot to the video from the previous day everything had to stay the same so I learned and watched to get better and make sure everything was accurate.
4. How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware, and online - in this project?
A: I integrated technologies in the making of this project by using cameras to shot and take shots to create the finished product. I also went online to create this project by looking up ways to record better and when it came to finding an app to edit the commercial with. I used a computer to tell me to look for tips and tricks and to edit the commercial with my group.
