Filming Blog: Auditorium Stairs
On October, 5th my group and I started filming our commercial. We started off by walking around each of the stairs around campus to find the perfect one. After looking we found out that the stairs by the auditorium were the best to use, to capture what we wanted. We realized we needed someone to be in the back as an extra because we didn't have enough people. We wanted it to look as natural as possible. Once we found another extra for the back we began to set up how we were going to set up the shot. We had our storyboard in front for guidance, but we still needed to play around with different angles. After we found the perfect angle we began to shot multiple takes of the first scene to get the perfect shot. While we were doing this we spotted a big iguana that was right above us. It frightened me at first because I felt as if it may land on my head. This iguana did cause a tiny setback because we weren't prepared to see it. Once the iguana ran away we began to shoot, we added all the props in like binders, pens, tables, and people's placements. (12) The second we had that all figured out we began to film until we got the best shot. After we finished the stair scene we began to take the second part of our storyboard, the pen flying in slow-mo. This shot was tricky because it had to be perfect. The pen had to fly at the right height and the person filming had to be fast to capture it. This scene took many takes but we did it. We then continued on the next few parts of the storyboard the pens travel. These shots would show the different pen colors throughout the commercial. Those scenes were most important for building the storyline.
